Police Intelligence Officer Commends CEDFOCI’s Advanced Forensic Laboratory Project in Enugu

The DNA Learning Center Nigeria’s Center for DNA Fingerprinting and Criminal Investigation (CEDFOCI) and Science City, Enugu, on Thursday 23rd October received the Second-in-Command of Intelligence at the State Intelligence Department of the Nigerian Police, Enugu State Command, Mr. Vin, on a fact-finding visit to the facility, which is nearing completion.

Mr. Vin was received by the Deputy Director of DNA Learning Center Nigeria, Mr. Michael Okoro, and the Laboratory Manager for CEDFOCI, Mr. Victor Abaa, who conducted him around the advanced forensic laboratory and science city project.

Impressed by the scale and innovation of the center, Mr. Vin described the initiative as a groundbreaking step for Enugu State and Southern Nigeria at large. He commended the foresight of the management and their commitment to redefining science education and forensic research in the region.

Speaking after the tour, Mr. Vin decried the theory-centered approach that has long characterized the Nigerian education system and called for a stronger emphasis on practical learning. He expressed optimism that CEDFOCI would bridge this gap by offering hands-on training and exposure to real-world forensic and scientific applications.

He further noted that the Nigerian Police Force stands to benefit significantly from the center once it becomes fully operational. According to him, “If this facility is well managed and offers practical training, the police can bring their regular course cadets here for specialized forensic courses. It will be a symbiotic relationship beneficial to both the center and the force.”

Mr. Vin described the project as laudable, adding that with continued diligence and support, “the sky will be your limit.”

In his remarks, the Deputy Director of DNALC, Mr. Okoro, explained that the concept of the forensic and science city was inspired by the Enugu State Governor’s vision to translate scientific learning into practical experience.

“When the governor saw what we were doing, he asked if we could transcribe it practically. That was how the government became involved. The idea is that while learning, students and professionals should engage in practicals using live data,” he said.

Mr. Okoro assured that the center would soon become fully functional and open to serve the general public, offering state-of-the-art forensic, scientific, and educational services that would enhance the capacity of law enforcement and research institutions in Nigeria.
